Day 21: What Makes You Sad?

Sorry guys! Didn’t have any time to blog yesterday, but I’ll continue today with yesterday’s prompt.

So today (yesterday) is “What Makes You Sad,” and I’m not completely sure how to approach this one. I, like everyone, have my ups and downs and I am convinced that I do have some degree of Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). The wintertime is the worst for me. I never want to get out of bed, I hate the holiday season, I’m moody (or more moody) and I gain weight. I’m sure a lot of you reading this feel the same way, it is a very common form of depression. It is believed that between 10% and 20% of people (more commonly, women) experience a mild form of winter-onset SAD.

However, more recently, what makes me sad has nothing to do with the seasons. Being bored is the main culprit. When I don’t feel like I’m contributing or really applying myself, I get down in the dumps. But, to combat this, I’ve started this blog, I’ve registered for beauty school, and I’ve created my own Etsy shop (ColorfulbyCristina). All while working full-time, mind you.  And let me tell you, it’s worked! Now that I’m busy, I have this “I can take on the world” attitude (seeing Wonder Woman may have something to do with this also).

So, moral of the story: try new things and get involved in something. My high school had a saying, “Don’t be a 2:30 person.” Meaning, don’t just go to school and go home – get involved and do something after school. Well, I’ve started to apply this to work. Don’t just go to work everyday and go home and lay on the couch – I mean, if that makes you happy, by all means do it- but if you’re like me, and need something to focus on to make you happy, find something you love and just do it.

Day 20: What Makes you Happy?

“Beauty is power, a smile is its sword”

– John Ray

Honestly, almost nothing makes me happier than when someone asks me for beauty advice. My face completely lights up; it can change my mood from sluggish and depressed to energetic, light and happy. When I’m talking about beauty products or techniques, it seems like nothing else matters, doesn’t matter what’s going on. To be able to help someone if they’re feeling insecure or unsure of what to use or how to do it, is just so rewarding.

Day 16 – Thoughts on Education

An investment in knowledge pays the best interest.”

-Benjamin Franklin

Education is one of the most valuable things in today’s world.

Without my bachelors degree I would not have gotten either of the jobs that I’ve had since graduation, and one of those was a shift supervisor at CVS and the other was a receptionist. Neither of these are glamorous jobs or even should require a degree of ANY kind, but it helped me to stand out amongst other applicants. It gave me something to talk about on interviews. And it showed that I had ambition by completing my degree.

I also love to learn. I’m convinced I will be in school or at least taking classes until I die. If I’m not learning new things and switching it up, I get bored, and when I’m bored I get depressed – like I’m never going to get anywhere in life. I completed my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Criminology in 2014 then immediately went into a Paralegal Ceritificate Program that I just finished in April of 2017 and now I’m about to register for Cosmetology school.

It never hurts to invest in your education. Even if you never do anything within the field of your degree, you never know how impressed an employer may be that you completed that degree. Find something that interests you and just do it.

Day 15: Where will you be in 5 years

I’ll keep it short tonight because I’m exhausted! After working 8-4:30 and crafting for my Etsy shop until 11, I’m pooped 💩

So where I hope to be in 5 years. Overall obviously I want to be successful at everything I’m doing. I want to be a successful paralegal ⚖️, while doing hair on the side 💇🏼, blogging/vlogging 📝📷 , and running a successful Etsy/online business 💰. I have no idea how I’ll be able to do all of this, but hey a girl can dream right?

Day 13: What’s inside your Fridge

So obviously I’m not going to list everything that’s inside my fridge right now, instead I’ll just list the staples, what I use all the time.

Cholula Hot Sauce:

I LOVE Cholula. It is by far the best hot sauce in my opinion, but I also hate buffalo sauce/Franks Red Hot. I love it because it’s not too hot and it’s actually flavorful- it really tastes like you’re eating real peppers. And it comes in so many flavors! Right now I’m obsessed with the Chile Lime version.

I really don’t know what I did before I had Cholula in my life..

Unsweetened Almond Milk:

I love almond milk. From the time I was a baby I’ve always hated regular milk – I don’t even like when I have to use it in coffee. In addition to hating it, I have very acne prone skin, and as soon as I cut out *most* dairy, as per my doctor’s recommendation, I saw a major decrease in new breakouts. Thank god Dunkin now offers almond milk, otherwise I’d never go anymore.

Eggs:

I’m pretty sure eggs are my main source of protein, especially during the day. Every week I make 6-8 hard boiled eggs and that’s what I eat at work… in addition to some fruit and veggies usually. And let me tell you, my hair, skin and nails has thanked me for it.

Slaw/Cabbage:

My mom and I have been obsessed with slaws lately. Just this past weekend we made our own (instead of using the package where you just add the dressing to it) and it came out delicious! Needless to say. We will now be keeping cabbage in the house on a regular basis.

Day 12: Favorite Childhood Book

I’m pretty sure anyone who knows me knows what I’m going to say…

Yep, you guessed it… Harry Potter without a shadow of a doubt.

I started reading when I was 9 years old and never stopped. Until I finished college, I re-read the books every winter or summer break. I still re-read the books whenever the mood strikes, but I have a lot less time now (plus reading Game of Thrones has kind of replaced it until I finally finish those).

I lost count of how many times I had read the books after I hit re-read #11. And I’m sure I don’t need to tell any of you how incredible the series is.

On top of the series being amazing- JK Rowling herself is truly an inspiration. If you haven’t read about her story, I highly suggest you do.

That’s all for today since it’s Memorial Day weekend and I’m sure you all have better things to do 😉.

Happy Memorial Day weekend everyone and be smart and stay safe!
