Too Faced Born This Way Foundation:
Color: Light Beige
Amount: (2.5 pumps)
Application: Damp beauty blender
- Great coverage
- Beautiful luminous finish without looking oily
- Perfect color match- actually looked undetectable
- Didn’t last through the day- became oily by noon
- Slightly oxidized with an orangey tone after 6 hours
- Took forever to dry
This foundation did not last a full day at work. It bare lasted a half day of work. For that reason, it is absolutely not worth $39. However, as you can see from my last post, I did discover a way to make it last the extra hours, but it involved mixing it with a L’Oréal matte foundation (which also happens to be fine on its own).
Estée Lauder Double Wear Foundation:
Color: Desert Beige
- Great coverage
- Thick, cakey feel – I feared this would cause breakouts if I kept using it
- Horrible chemical-like smell
- Yellow tinge
As you can probably see, I should have gone one shade darker in this one, this foundation had a yellow tinge to it.
It was also extremely thick and sticky and smelled awful. I ended up returning this one after one use.
This foundation also had no pump, so you had to flip it upside down onto your finger or let it drip onto your beauty blender, not very convenient. This also leads to more product waste, something especially painful when spending $39.50 on a foundation.
Conclusion: I didn’t find either of these foundations to be worth the money (I did end up keeping the Born This Way). There are plenty of dupes out there or even just better ones out there for less than half the price of these.
This week, while testing out my new Born This Way foundation (full review to follow), I discovered this perfect trick to make it last even longer and dry matte (I found that it “dried” very sticky on its own).
I simply primed my face with Lancôme Bienfait 50+ sunscreen, then MIXED on my beauty blender: Born This Way foundation in Light Beige and L’Oréal Infallible Pro-Matte in Golden Beige. I started using this trick at work to last through an 8.5 hour shift (I have very oily skin and it’s been HOT and HUMID) and it worked so well! I even got compliments on how good my complexion looked.
So today we’re trying it for the beach! I have no doubts that it will hold up, even just the Born This Way held up well at the beach earlier this week.
P.S: there will be a post soon about how I got my hair this light ON MY OWN!
Hair Crazy on a Budget
In a moment of weakness, extreme oiliness, and due to a 20% off coupon, I decided it was time for me to FINALLY try a high end foundation. I did some researching on which ones were best for oily skin and two that kept popping up were Too Faced Born This Way Foundation and Estée Lauder Double Wear. I figured I would get both so I could compare and contrast the two.
This is really an experiment to see if these expensive “high end” foundations are really worth the hype and the money. I will be testing them out all week and then reporting back. FYI it’s supposed to be extremely humid here in NY over the next week so this should be the perfect test for these foundations.
And naturally, I couldn’t just stop there since I was placing an order anyway, so I ended up also with a new bronzer, face mask and facial spray. The Mascara Melt Off was free with my Too Faced purchase and the Estée Lauder Sumptuous Extreme Mascara was free with the Estée Lauder purchase.
Will be posting follow up “first impressions” and full reviews so keep an eye out!
